Yesterday, Cheryl received her second dose of Gemcitabine. This is the last chemo dose for round 3. Today she received a shot of Neulasta, a drug that helps her bone marrow recover and create new blood cells. She also got a blood transfusion of two units of blood today. Yesterday, her blood counts were: hemoglobin 8.5 (normal is 12 to 16), platelets 129 (normal is 140 to 440), white count 3.2 (normal is 4.0 to 11). Although not nearly as low as during previous chemo treatments, today is only day 10 of the 21 day treatment cycle and she got another dose of the drug yesterday so they will probably go lower before starting back up.
After her chemo treatment yesterday, Cheryl and I went to Jaden's 3 PM tournament game. It was a nice day and the field had covered stands and there was a nice breeze. Jaden made several terrific defensive plays and Cheryl enjoyed being on the sidelines once again. Other than going to the softball game and her chemo treatments Cheryl has not been out of the apartment in over a week. Although we had hoped to be at the Relay for Life event in Washington, Kansas Saturday night, we have decided not to make the trip. We appreciate so much the "United We Ride" team and all those who have donated to Relay for Life to help fight cancer. While we will not be there in person, we will be with you in spirit. Thank you!
We hope the blood transfusion today will help Cheryl get stronger and feel better. We have 11 days left in this cycle for her to get better before round 4 starts. For now, we will be sticking close to home but we hope Cheryl will feel like traveling some in the next few weeks. Ron

Hang in there and start getting stronger. Let us know when you are planning to travel this way and I'll arrange for you to see a couple of little 8 month old girls who have changed since you last held them in May. You should be receiving a link soon via email to view their latest pictures. Love you.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the update, Ron! We will be praying that Cheryl gets lots of rest and help her get stronger and feel better. She has a week off from the chemo which should help! Please know you are in our thoughts and prayers each day. You both have been so brave in facing this battle. God has you in the palm of His hand, Cheryl, and all you need to do is cling to Him and His promise that He will never leave you--that He is always with you. May you feel His presence and His peace today. Mom joins me in sending you all our love! Barb
