Cheryl met with Dr. McKittrick at 2:30 today at the Kansas City Cancer Center at 1000 E. 101st Terrace in Kansas City, Missouri. He was our choice as the local oncology doctor to continue the chemo treatment recommended by her MD Anderson doctor. He reviewed her medical history, treatment received at MD Anderson and the recommended chemo drug for the next round of treatment. He expects that the first weekly dose can be given early next week but we won't know exactly which day until they call an appointment time.
While the long travel day yesterday was tiring for Cheryl, she really, really enjoyed her first night in her own bed. She continues to feel better each day and is sitting up more all the time. She had an A&W root beer float after the doctor's appointment and enjoyed it immensely. She drank the whole thing, the most she has eaten/drank at one time in a long while. Her mouth sores are getting better and we are hoping her appetite improves each day. She is slowly getting back on her regular medications. She will be on lovenox, a blood thinner, for a month to help dissolve the small blood clots discovered in her lungs last Friday.
Thanks to all of you for supporting her through cards, emails, comments on the blog, phone calls and especially your prayers. She's back home now and we hope the next round of chemo will have much fewer side effects but still be effective in fighting the cancer. Ron
