Thursday and things are getting complicated

As we enter the fourth day, things have gotten complicated. Mom had a terrible night as she was having extreme difficulty breathing. Although this was the case on Tuesday night as well, it was muh worse last night. She could not cath her breath and was getting very anxious. They called in a doctor and he said that it was liquid building up in her lungs making it hard for her to breath. So they gave her a breathing treatment and also some lasixs and that made her have to go to the bathroom. So, every twenty minutes we had to get her out of bed and onto the bed side commode. that only lasted so long as I could no longer lift her after about the fourth time and she could not do it herself.

They finally made the decision to put a catheter in and that has make things better. Although there is a risk of infetion in doing this, the risk of her falling is greater. They also did a chest xray to check on everything. during this, she had another bad breathing problem due to the stress of moving her around. She is now on both oxygen through her nose and also a canula - which covers her nose and mouth. Mom is now resting peacefully and we all hope she doesn't remember too much of this stage.

The first chemo drug will finish at 10:00 tonight. The doctor has decided to hold off on the fourth dose of the second chemo drug and wait until mom has recooperated a little bit. They will continue to give her lasix and flush out the fluids from her body before starting the next dose. When asked about recovery time for this round of chemo, he said that more than likely it will be similar to the last round.

As always continued thoughts and prayers are appreciated. Stacey

  1. It's hard to post words of encouragement 750 miles away but thank you so much to both Stacey & Ron for being at Chery's bedside 24/7 (Michelle too when she's there). She relayed to me via phone she wasn't nearly as scared this round knowing one of the three of you would be by her side during the bad times. Although I know it is hard stay strong and we will continue to pray hourly for all involved.

  2. Hi Guys!
I was really bummed to read about the problems with the breathing, but it sounds like Cheryl has some good doctors who listen to her and solve the problems as they come. I was so glad to read that she is sleeping peacefully and getting the rest that she needs for the next treatment. As I have said before, please know that you are in my thoughts and prayers. I know that God is there with all of you, watching over Cheryl and giving her health care providers wisdom and discernment in her treatments. I am also praying for you, Ron and Stacey, as you spend each day with Cheryl giving her the care and love that she needs to keep the battle going. May you receive the rest you need and the courage to face each day with a smile and hope in your hearts! You said that they took an x-ray of her lungs--were they able to see if the chemo had made any progress? It would be encouraging to know that the there was a difference! Thanks so much for taking the time to write in the blog--it is our lifeline to you and Cheryl! Love you all! Barb

  4. Dear Ones,
So Sorry to hear of the rought night. I pray that the morning light brings more positive circumstances. Thanks once again for the updates so we can pray specifically...we know that God already knows what you need before we pray and that He is there and "at the ready" will all the answers but it is so nice to hear updates from you. Psalms 57:1 "For my soul trusts in You; and in the shadow of your wings I will make my refuge until these calamities have passed by" Rest sweet Cheryl in the shadow of Gods wings and let Him work and heal in your body.....the rest of you also when you can try to rest so you can continue to be such a good support. Sure wish there was something more I could do .....but I guess I can to the BEST THING and that is pray! Know that I am! Have a blessed day!
