Hello from Houston - wow is it hot!

Hi there, this is Stacey, Ron and Cheryl's youngest daughter. I came to Houston today litterally on the same plane Michelle and the girls flew back to Kansas City on. I was waiting in front of the gate to get ready to board my plane when they came out of the gate. So, we had a fifteen minute reunion before I got on the plane.
Now in Houston, I was very happy to see my mom and dad. I felt pretty lost till I found them at the hospital. Mom is looking good compared to the last time I saw her three weeks ago. She is breathing a lot easier, thank God! She had to have MORE blood work done this morning and a chest xray. Then, after I arrived and we all had some lunch, we headed off to the doctor's office for an appointment. Although mom's doctor seems a little cocky, he seems to know what he is doing and wants the best for my mom.
The doctor did say that the blood counts were up from Wed, but he didn't tell us what the numbers were, only that he wished they were higher. He asked mom about her experience with the chemo and if she wanted to continue, which she informed that she did. That she is going to continue to fight this cancer (and WIN!). The one thing mom asked is if she could have the weekend before going back into the hospital, which he has granted. We have to call on Monday after noon and see if they have a room ready for her so we don't have to sit around waiting like they did last time.
After the doctor's appointment it was off to the beauty shop, where we fitted mom with a complementary wig and head wrap. Being the stylist I am, we got her one that looks like the color her hair used to be naturally and a pretty close style. I will have to cut the bangs and trim around the ears, but it looks pretty good. Her head wrap is white with purple polka dots - yes - Go K-State.
Well, that's a lot of info for now, hope I didn't bore you. I will try to help dad with the post while I am here, which is until June 23! Continued thoughts and prayers are appreciated and if you want to join as a "follower" I know mom would like that as well. Comments are also always welcome and we will read them all to her.
Thanks Stacey

  2. Hello Everyone!
Thanks for the update on your mom Stacey! I am sure that both she and your dad are glad you are there. It sounds like Cheryl will be quite the trendsetter with her new hair and headwrap! I can't wait to see it! I'm also so glad that she will get to be at the apartment for a few days longer before starting the second round of chemo. What a great attitude, Cheryl! You are about the bravest person I know! Please know you continue to be in my thoughts and prayers! Get lots of rest and build up those blood cells! I'll look forward to reading an update this weekend!
    Lots of love,
    Barb

  4. Good morning from Morris MN. Preparing for the wedding today but you know our thoughts and spirits are always 100% with you. Enjoy the weekend before entering your second journey with chemo next week. Just know that the end result will make it worth it. Can't wait until you get back to God's country.

  6. Stacey-
Thanks so much for the update! Looking forward to a photo of that awesome sounding head wrap! You go Cheryl!!!! Praise the Lord for your extra days at the apartment..enjoy them to the fullest! All is well in Soldier but quite soggy and expecting rain again this weekend :-( was hoping we would dry out a bit first but guess not. Ron, please remember that we are willing to do ANY thing here...do you have someone to mow the lawn at the Soldier house? would be willing to do that and whatever needs to be done in the garden. I go by there quite often taking Lane to ball practice and games so it is "on the way" the big kids are leaving Monday for CIY church camp and will be gone for a week....it will be way to quiet here! Well guys: Know that we are praying daily (and sometimes more than that!) for you and appreciate the updates so very much. Hang in there and know that God's got it all under control-rest in Him. love, Laura
