Another day in hospital

We were hoping that Cheryl would get out of the hospital on Wednesday and it was close. Her blood counts were really up today: hemoglobin is at 10.5 vs 9.8 Tuesday (normal is 12 to 16), her platelets are at 35 vs 23 Tuesday (normal is 140 to 440), her white count is 3.9 vs 1.4 Tuesday (normal is 4.0 to 11). The nurse practitioner was ready to let her go then noticed that she was not taking in enough fluid. Although Cheryl is feeling much stronger, sitting up more and staying awake more, she is still on a liquid diet and not enough of that. Her mouth and throat sores are getting better but are still bothering her and she still can't take any pills. Also, she is retaining some of the fluid she's getting through the IV and what she is drinking so she got another dose of lasix (diuretic) late this afternoon. That gave her a lot of exercise getting up out of bed to go. Overall, she is feeling much better and I fully expect she will go home from the hospital on Thursday. No matter what health problems I have in the future or how much I have to be in the hospital, I don't see how I would have any right to complain after witnessing all that Cheryl has had to endure. How she can still smile and be thankful for how good a few ice chips taste is truly remarkable. Ron

  1. Just think about that king size bed at the apartment sis and how much you enjoy it! You are truly an inspiration to us all as you battle this unforgiving disease. You will win, I just know it!
