Multiple efforts on Friday and Saturday morning to get Cheryl back on her feet resulted in a significant elevation in her heart rate, in excess of 140 beats per minute at times. However, after having eaten some for breakfast and even more for lunch (vs. eating practically nothing Friday), getting some pain medication and a drug for anxiety, her heart rate was back down to the mid-80's. She said she was feeling as good as she had in some time.
Seeing that as a hopeful sign, about mid-afternoon Saturday we decided to increase her activity to see how she did. The results were so exciting that we called the kids and her mother to let them know what an improvement Cheryl had made. We started by putting her bed in a sitting position. That went well. Next she needed to go to the bathroom. She did great standing and moving around with her heart rate staying around 100. She had a bowel movement for the first time in several days, more great news. She was still doing well so she sat up in a chair, got cleaned up, washed her hair with a neat shower cap, and continued watching the Womens College Softball World Series on TV for about an hour. During this whole time her heart rate never got much above 100.
Maybe it doesn't sound like much the way I've described it, but believe me, it was a major improvement! I am beginning to have hope that she might really get to leave the hospital Monday. I know it can all change for the worse in the blink of an eye, but I choose to believe this is a sign that she is really getting better. If there is a setback, we will just have to keep trying, that's all we can do. Thank you for your continued thoughts and prayers. I hope there will be more good news to tell you tomorrow. Ron

Prayers do work. It was great hearing some or your "ornery" comments when we spoke on the phone late yesterday afternoon. Look forward to next weekend.

ReplyDeleteThe Prayer of Jabez: http://www.crossroad.to/articles2/Jabez.htm
ReplyDeleteI have prayed this prayer daily since 2003 and indeed does provide comfort and peace. Asking God to give you additional trials and tribulations will improve your life as long as you faith in his plan. The link above provides great reading and provokes thoughts of life's course.
I love the Lord because he hears my voice
ReplyDeleteand my prayer for mercy.
Because he bends down to listen,
I will pray as long as I have breath!
