May 16, 2009
Got the news last night regarding my CT scans - seems to be a tumor on the right ventricle of my heart measuring 9 cm, a lesion at T7 and mets into my lungs - not good news - am meeting with the doctor today along with my husband and 2 daughters to discuss further and find out what I didn't hear last night on the phone. Having some kind of heart test Monday.

Spent Monday thru today in hospital - definitely have a tumor inside and outside of my heart that has spread to my lungs. Ron, Michelle and I are headed to Houston in am for probable heart surgery and then lots of chemo. Don't know when we'll be back - will keep you updated. Thanks for the prayers - we have a fighting chance.

Arrived in Houston at noon Friday. Saw Dr Ravi and learned that chemo is the only treatment option. Hospital was full so Cheryl had to stay in the Emercency Room Friday night and Saturday until 6 PM. Couldn't start chemo until she got a regular room. Should be starting within a few hours. Expect to be in the hospital for 4-6 days until the drugs are administered. Then we need to stay in Houston for two weeks so Cheryl can have blood work done 3 times a week and be close to her doctor in case of complications. After 21 days from today, it starts all over again. Will let you know how it is going later. Cheryl is in the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texsas in Room P1024. Her phone number is 713-834-8796.

Ron and I had a great time at the alumni and get together. Was great to see old friends. At the end of the weekend I started to get really short of breath and went to doctor on Tuesday, May 12 to find out I had 20 + nodules on each lung. Did CT scans on Thursday and found I have a mass in my heart and one on the outside of it, also a lesion on T6 of my spine. Put in KC hospital Monday after more tests were run and biopsy showed cancer. Left hospital on Wednesday and started for MD Anderson hospital in Houston, Texas. Ron, our oldest daughter Michelle, and I arrived Friday afternoon for an appointment. Was admitted and started on chemo Saturday night - will receive 5-6 doses then be discharged - have to then have labs 3 times a week, then chemo starts up again 21 days after start of first dose. After the second go round they will do a CT scan to see if any improvement. Ron and Michelle are at a hotel at present but we will try to find an apartment. Hopefully after the second round and tests I can get trasnfered to KC, I want closer to home. The kids and rest of family are coming down for a vacation, hah!Hope the rest of you stay healthy and don't get any surprises. I even had xrays last fall!

  3. What cancer can't do:

    Cancer is so limited
    It cannot cripple love
    It cannot shatter hope
    It cannot erode faith
    It cannot eat away peace
    It cannot destroy confidence
    It cannot kill friendship
    It cannot shut out memories
    It cannot silence courage
    It cannot invade the soul
    It cannot reduce eternal life
    It cannot quench the spirit
It cannot lesson the power of the resurrection.

  4. Hi Cheryl!
Don and I just got back from our trip to Wyoming. I went to Aunt Becky's funeral on Friday and then his nephew graduated from high school on Sunday. So, I am just reading my email and I was so glad to get the address of your blog. Please know Don and I and Becky and Steve and Scott are all praying for you. I know you can beat this!!! I have also been forwarding your emails to Janet, Rita, Gerri and Janice as they have been asking about you so we have a major prayer chain going on! I want you and Ron to know that I can come to Houston any time to be with you and help out in any way I can. Just let me know what I can do!! I want to help! I love the pictures and your website! I'll be checking in with you soon and in the meantime, please know you are in my thoughts and prayers! Love you, Barb
